Harvest Moon on Fire

You are invited to a monthly magical and marvelous evening, where we gather outdoors on the evening of the full moon around crackling fires to enjoy each other’s company, welcome in the forces of nature, delight in themed snacks and beverages, and share nascent stories, performances, songs, and poems with one another. Join us for Moon on Fire.

This month, we are gathering and celebrating the Harvest Moon on Fire, at 7 pm in Old Irving Park in Chicago on Monday, September 20th. This evening will feature a line-up of performers, followed by an open mic and casual hangs.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we call the full moon closest to the autumn equinox the Harvest Moon. In 2021, the Northern Hemisphere autumn equinox comes on September 22. The full moon falls less than two days earlier, on September 20. Thus, for the Northern Hemisphere, this upcoming full moon – the full moon closest to our autumn equinox – is our Harvest Moon.

Depending on the year, the full Harvest Moon can occur anywhere from two weeks before the autumn equinox to two weeks after. The Harvest Moon is either the last full moon of the summer season, or the first full moon in autumn.

This event is performed and experienced LIVE in front of a limited audience in regulations with Chicago's COVID-19 guidelines; there will also be a real-time broadcast on Facebook for this event.

We will also have an open mic/jam session at the end of the evening, following the pre-arranged lineup! You can show up on the evening of the full moon and, if the mood calls to you, sign up and share a little something in the open mic portion.
