I once sat with a mentor and asked them, how do I get to do what they do as well as they do it. And they told me, at least once, to take a walk in everyone's shoes. Be the boss, and the manager, sure, but also be the intern, and the janitor, and the caterer, and the greeter, and the techie, and the promoter, and all the other jobs that are required for an event so you know exactly how much time, energy and effort it takes to do it. Once you know, you'll be able to lead a ship, steer it, and fill in for someone if they become MIA. If you understand the value of every job necessary to complete a special event, you can never ask too little or too much from your team.

So, through the years, I've worn many hats. Sometimes, I juggle those hats in a single event. Sometimes, I wear only one hat.
